At January’s show we introduced a feature area into the show for alternative brides and grooms called The Curious Place. It was an amazing little corner of fabulous and unique exhibitors who brought a totally different element to The Liverpool & North West Wedding Show.
The Curious Place was a huge success and it attracted a whole new bunch of fabulous couples to the show, which gave it a unique and unconventional twist to what is normally a very main stream wedding show.
The Curious Place for September’s show has grown into something pretty spectacular with over 25 alternative and wonderfully-wacky companies already booked in. So last week we grabbed a whole bunch of them and took them to the home of our Live Lounge sponsor, Ghetto Golf for one of the most amazing photo shoots we’ve ever been involved in! They brought all kinds of weird and wonderful things with them – beautiful and alternative wedding dresses, way-out props and themes, awesome cakes … and of course, a couple of zebras … and they turned Ghetto Golf into a wacky-whimsical-wonderful-wedding-wonderland!
Who was involved
The genius between the camera was the very talented Vicky Dubois Photography. Her style of photography is fun, creative and relaxed but her real talent is capturing beautiful moments with honesty, and capturing someones truly, crazy personality. Her understanding of what works and how to capture it is a true talent and is has given us the images far beyond what we could ever of imagined.
Legend Bridal Designs doesn’t conform to the norm! She understands that not every bride’s dream dress is the white, fairytale dress and instead want their own fairytale ending, with their personality stamped all over it. Lovingly handmade and designed individually for each person, Legend’s dresses means each bride can rock her wedding day, her way.
Forget the traditional morning suit or the trendy tweeds …. stand out from the crowd and show them your true colours by Slaters Menswear.
There are wedding bouquets and there are bouquets by Maddison Rocks Floral Sculpture … and these bouquets rock like no other bouquet you will probably every see! Why have pretty flowers when you can have all your favourite things bunched together to make the-most-exquisite bouquets, made especially for you.
No photo shoot … or wedding day … would be complete without a zebra or two! And if it’s quirky theming you are looking at then the Maiden, Mother and Crone is the company you need to speak to. Kate has an eccentric collection of ethically-sourced taxidermy and interior accessories to transform your wedding venue into something that will blow your wedding guests’ minds.
When it comes to venue dressing and table decorations, this is the part of the your wedding day that your guests are going to see the most of, especially if you having a sit-down meal! So make sure you give them something they will talk about for a long time with stunning centre pieces and quirky table settings with Wachadoin Events.
What you send to your guests is so important for setting the scene of your wedding day as it is the first time you are ‘letting them in’ to your wedding plans’. Choosing a stationery designer who understands you and your personality is crucial for your guests to understand the style of wedding you would like – and makes your guests feel a part of your wedding. Prim and Glad Bespoke Wedding Stationery offer alternative, unconventional & quirky designs that are bespoke to you.
Cakes …. back in the day (Medieval times) the original wedding cake was made from wheat and was thought to make you fertile and prosperous! These days, wedding cakes taste a whole lot better with mouth-watering flavours from traditional fruit cake to beautifully-bonkers courgette and lime cake, Debbie Gillespie Cake Design can bake you a real showpiece of a cake.
Wedding make-up tends to be subtle and the aim is to emphasise the brides natural beauty, with an added glow … but if your style is full on sparkle then don’t hold back on your wedding day, grab the glow and embrace it. The Glam Bunny Make-Up Artist offers subtle to full-on and everything in-between… and even convinced our boys a bit of turquoise eyeliner is the way forward.
We picked the photo shoot to take place at Ghetto Golf as if you are looking for an alternative wedding venue, then this is it! There are two parts to the venue:
On Air Liverpool, is Liverpool’s newest and most exciting night club venue set inside a full movie set, where you and your guests become part of the cast as you say “I do”. It has the feeling of an outdoor courtyard music festival, set in the middle of some enchanted old town square.
Then led your guests into Ghetto Golf with its the mini golf course with cocktails bars and loud music – perfect for your evening reception or Stag and Hen Parties.
The Curious Place
